Own network infrastructure, Anycast, DDoS protection, and five active Points of Presence in Germany: With the ayedo Edge Cloud, ayedo expands its cloud platform with a sovereign edge infrastructure for modern applications.
Saarbrücken, September 7, 2026 – The German cloud provider ayedo today announces the availability of its new ayedo Edge Cloud. The platform serves as the central entry layer between the public internet and applications, integrating Anycast routing, DNS, TLS, Layer-4 and Layer-7 load balancing, Web Application Firewall, DDoS protection, and health checks.
With the new platform, ayedo positions a European alternative to international edge providers like Cloudflare. This allows companies to deliver modern applications with high availability and protection without relying on a US hyperscaler for the central entry layer of their digital infrastructure.
“For many companies, Cloudflare has long been considered practically irreplaceable for making applications accessible from the internet in a performant, highly available, and protected manner. We want to demonstrate that this doesn’t have to remain the case,” says Katrin Peter from ayedo. “With our Edge Cloud, we are building a powerful alternative on European infrastructure. Digital sovereignty should not mean having to compromise on technology, automation, or availability.”
The technical foundation of the ayedo Edge Cloud is its own network infrastructure. ayedo operates its own Autonomous System and currently has five active Points of Presence: one in Hamburg, one in Alsbach, and three in Frankfurt.
The locations announce common Anycast prefixes. This allows the same public IP address to be reachable at multiple locations simultaneously. Which Point of Presence a connection reaches is determined by the routing mechanisms of the internet.
All locations operate productively in an active-active mode. If one location fails, there is no need to activate a traditional standby system or change a DNS entry. The routing infrastructure can direct new connections through the remaining locations.
With the Edge Cloud, ayedo extends its existing Compute Cloud with an independent architectural layer. While the Compute Cloud provides Managed Kubernetes , Container workloads, Object Storage, Registry, Observability, and GitOps, the Edge Cloud handles the processing of public traffic before it reaches the actual applications.
ayedo deliberately does not view DNS, TLS, load balancing, WAF, DDoS protection, and health checks as isolated products. They form a unified processing chain between the internet and the application.
“For us, modern applications do not begin with the first pod in the Kubernetes cluster. Decisions about routing, encryption, security, availability, and load distribution have already been made before any code is executed there,” says Peter. “That’s why the Edge is part of the cloud platform itself for us—not a subsequently integrated collection of external services.”
With the Edge Cloud, ayedo pursues a European infrastructure approach. The company understands digital sovereignty not merely as a question of server location. It is also crucial who operates and controls key technical components and what dependencies arise as a result.
Instead of merely replicating the functions of established US providers, ayedo pursues a platform approach with its own network identity and clearly separated responsibilities between Edge and Compute.
The new infrastructure is not being developed in isolation. In the coming weeks, ayedo will introduce the partners with whom the company is realizing the Edge Cloud and provide insights into the technologies used and the underlying infrastructure.
With this, ayedo aims to demonstrate that digital sovereignty is not achieved by building the next proprietary dependency. The goal is a robust European technology and infrastructure ecosystem.
In parallel with the launch of the Edge Cloud, ayedo is publishing a comprehensive flagship article on the platform’s architecture. Additional technical articles are planned for the coming months.
The focus will be on topics such as BGP and Anycast, Layer-4 and Layer-7 load balancing, high availability, health checks, DDoS protection, and integration with Kubernetes components.
With this publication, ayedo aims not only to present its own platform but also to make transparent the technical decisions behind a modern edge infrastructure.
