GitOps in the Factory: Software Rollouts for 100 Locations Simultaneously
In the software world, “Continuous Delivery” is standard. However, in the industrial …

The vision of “Omnichannel Retail” sounds perfect in theory: order online, pick up in-store (Click & Collect), digital price tags that adjust in real-time, and intelligent inventory management across all locations. However, in practice, these concepts often fail due to the technological realities in stores.
Outdated servers in the back rooms of branches, tedious manual updates per location, and inconsistent data make innovations a nightmare for IT. With Edge Computing based on the ayedo platform, we bring Cloud technology directly into your branches – centrally controllable, highly available, and absolutely consistent.
Branch systems have often been viewed as isolated islands. This leads to massive problems:
We use Kubernetes not only in the data center but also bring it as an “Edge Cloud” directly into your stores. This means:
Whether you operate 10 or 1,000 branches: One click in our central console is enough to roll out an update to all locations simultaneously. Our platform ensures that every branch has exactly the same software version – automated and secure.
By operating local microservices in the branch, your critical processes (such as sales at the point of sale) remain functional even if the connection to the central data center is temporarily interrupted. Once the connection is restored, the ayedo platform automatically synchronizes the data in the background.
You no longer need expensive server racks in every store. Our lean architecture allows modern applications to run on cost-effective hardware on-site, while management is completely centralized with ayedo.
With a consistent platform strategy, the online and offline worlds merge:
What is the difference between Cloud and Edge Computing in retail? In Cloud Computing, data and logic reside in a central data center. In Edge Computing, computing power is shifted directly to where it is needed – in the branch. This reduces latency and increases failover during internet disruptions.
How secure are updates in hundreds of branches simultaneously? We use “Canary Deployments” or “Rolling Updates.” This means we first roll out an update in a test branch. Only if everything runs perfectly there is it automatically distributed to the remaining locations. In case of errors, an automatic rollback occurs.
Can we continue to use existing hardware in the branches? Often yes. Since our platform is based on open standards, it is very frugal in terms of hardware. We conduct an audit to check if your existing systems are “Edge-ready.”
How does Edge Computing help with GDPR compliance? Data can be processed and anonymized directly on-site before it moves to the Cloud. Sensitive customer data does not have to leave the branch unless absolutely necessary.
Is operating Edge systems not extremely maintenance-intensive? Not with ayedo’s Managed Service model. We monitor the Edge nodes in your branches just like your central clusters. You don’t have to send an IT technician to every store – we handle it remotely.
Do you want to finally digitally connect your branches? Stop running sneaker IT. Let us transform your locations into a modern, centralized Edge infrastructure. Talk to ayedo about the future of your branch networking.
